Terms and privacy

What findthatlink does
You save a web link under a short phrase. Anyone who has the phrase can look it up here and see where the link goes before opening it. You can change, pause or retire your links at any time.
What you may not use it for
- Malware, phishing, scams, or anything built to deceive or harm the people who open it.
- Content that is illegal where you or your readers are.
- Spam: bulk or repetitive links posted to promote something.
- Getting around the rules of the site where you post a phrase. If a platform does not allow a link, a phrase that leads to it is not allowed there either.
- Harassing people or publishing their private information.
We can switch off any link that breaks these rules, and close accounts that keep breaking them. A link that has been switched off stops showing its destination, and its phrase cannot be reused.
Links are public
Anyone who knows or guesses a phrase can see the link saved under it, along with its title, its note and its earlier destinations. Do not save anything you need to keep private.
What we store
- Your email address, so you can sign in. We use it only to send sign-in links. We do not send marketing email and we do not show your address to anyone.
- Your links: the phrase, the address it points to, the title and note you give it, and earlier destinations.
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in on your browser for up to 30 days. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
- A scrambled form of your internet address when you save a link, ask for a sign-in link or send a report. It lets us limit abuse. We do not store the address itself.
- Reports that visitors send about a link, including any details they add.
We do not sell this information or share it for advertising. It is held by the services that run the site: Vercel hosts it, Neon stores the database, and Resend delivers sign-in email.
Reporting a link
Every looked-up link has a "Report this link" control. For anything a report does not cover, including a request to take a link down, write to findthatlink@mail.com.
Removing your information
You can retire any of your links from "My links", which deletes its destination. To close your account and remove your email address, write to findthatlink@mail.com from the address you signed up with.
No guarantees
findthatlink is provided as it is. We try to keep it running and to keep phrases working, but we cannot promise it will always be available, and we are not responsible for the sites that links lead to. Check where a link goes before you open it.
